True story. In fact, I have been writing letters and short emails to donors that have resulted in $19,250,333 for over 33 years.
One of my first campaigns was to generate the necessary operating funds for a non-profit focused on underprivileged youth. Before the fall of the Iron Curtain, in 1989, the communist government invited me to Budapest, Hungary to do social work with their deviant youth. A 10 year lease was negotiated on an old castle property located on 78 acres one hour southeast of Budapest. This was a great opportunity to put smiles on young Hungarian faces and to give them hope.
As the responses came in, many of the donors commented on how they felt they were being spoken to directly. They said the letters they received really inspired them to donate money, however much they could, to help these children. They felt they were truly making a difference through their donations.
